About Colleen

Born in Alberta, Canada, and having grown up in
Largo, FL, Colleen Spiegel is a successful
freelance engineer and innovator with over 8
years of experience in the field. She currently
works with companies such as McGraw-Hill,
Constellation Technology and BCC Research,
and is currently involved in the design of
revolutionary fuel cell technology.

She is a leader in the fuel cell industry, and is the author of titles like
Designing and Building Fuel Cells’ (McGraw-Hill), ‘PEM Fuel Cell
Modeling and Simulation Using MATLAB’ as well as ‘Opportunities for
Coal-Based Products’ (BCC Research) and Global Electronics: High
Growth Products and New Markets (BCC Research), and she has also
produced many technical documents, SOPs, reports and mathematical
models, aiding several different companies.

Current Projects

At the moment, Colleen is working on a number of R&D projects, both
professionally and speculatively -- and on a project that has the capability
to change the way we view the world. This particular venture sees
Colleen put her drive and motivation to the test as she takes an
instrumental role in a new fuel cell design, with the goal of producing a
cost-effective, mass-produced line of fuel cells.

Recent Projects

Colleen’s three most recent projects, include working with Lynntech,
BCC Research and Elseveier Science, have seen her make use of her
research skills and expertise with the programming language, MATLAB,
to analyze current conditions and predict future changes. She wrote one
of her three books, ‘
PEM Fuel Cell Modeling and Simulation Using
MATLAB’, for Elsevier Science, which discusses the mathematical
modeling of fuel cells in great detail.

Her works on fuel cells is full of fact, and free from promotional talk about
how they can help society. It’s just detailed information for engineers and
technicians who want to learn more about fuel cells.

Even more recently, Colleen worked on amino acids and the products
that use them (BCC Research), and her most recent completed project
again involved fuel cells for Lynntech -- where she created mathematical
models to make predictions for their GEN5 fuel cell stack.

Colleen’s Services

Colleen Spiegel offers services in mathematical modeling, scientific
writing, research studies, and white paper and proposal services for
businesses, both large and small. She attacks all her projects with
energy and motivation, backed by a track record of excellent achievement
and consistent results, which have allowed her to build strong customer
relationships. Top quality work is delivered to all customers with
exceptional service and responsiveness.

Education and Qualifications

Colleen spent a significant amount of time at the University of South
Florida, in Tampa, where she was awarded a B.S. in Chemical
Engineering and English Literature, and an M.S. in Chemical
Engineering with a thesis entitled ‘A Mathematical Model of Colloidal
Aggregation’. Her Ph.D work in Electrical Engineering was on the
‘Mathematical Modeling of Micro and Macro Fuel Cells’.

In terms of computing ability, Colleen is familiar with the entire Windows
suite right from MS-DOS to Vista and with Microsoft Office. She also uses
MATLAB, COMSOL Multiphysics, Adobe Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, and
can code in Visual Basic, SQL, HTML and C++.

Personal Life

Away from professional life, Colleen lives in Clearwater, FL, with her
husband Brian, son Howard, German Shepherd (Sergeant), and cats
Carmella, Penelope and Wolfie. She moved to Clearwater from Largo,
FL, where she grew up, having been born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
